How Acupuncture Helps You Become Pregnant Despite Unexplained Infertility

Infertility can be a frustrating and emotionally challenging experience for couples who are trying to conceive. Unexplained infertility, in particular, can be especially difficult as there may not be an obvious medical reason for the difficulty in conceiving. If you’re struggling with unexplained infertility, acupuncture helps.

Acupuncture is a holistic therapy that has been used for centuries to help improve fertility and increase the chances of conception. It involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of energy or Qi. Acupuncture can help regulate the menstrual cycle, increase blood flow to the reproductive organs, and improve hormone balance, all of which improve fertility.

Dr. Melanie Morrill Ac. at Accessible Acupuncture is a skilled and experienced acupuncturist who has helped many couples overcome infertility and conceive a child. She understands that fertility is a complex issue and works with each couple to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses their specific needs.

At Accessible Acupuncture, we use a holistic approach to fertility that includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, and lifestyle recommendations. Our goal is to help you achieve optimal health and well-being, to conceive your baby.

In addition to acupuncture, we also offer high-quality, herbs and supplements that can be helpful for couples who are trying to conceive.

If you’re struggling with unexplained infertility and are looking for a natural, effective way to improve your chances of conceiving, consider trying acupuncture. At Accessible Acupuncture, we are committed to helping you achieve your goals and start or grow your family. Call us today at 587-879-7122 to schedule your consultation.

How Acupuncture Can Help with Lactation

How Acupuncture Can Help with Lactation

Being a new parent is an exciting and challenging time. Breast and chest feeding is not always comfortable, but there are several options that a nursing parent has access to that make the experience better.

Here are three things to support your breast/chest feeding in Edmonton, AB:

  1. Consult with a lactation consultant or peer resource. Click here for the Edmonton Breast Feeding Directory.
  2. Try acupuncture. Acupuncture can be used to increase milk production, manage pain, release upper back and neck tension, resolved clogged ducts, support new moms’ mental health, and aid healing after cesarean sections. Book your acupuncture appointment online at accessibleacupuncture.ca.
  3. Make modifications to your diet. Drink more fluids, rest, take supplements, and keep trying. Chest/breast feeding is different for everyone, and it takes time to find what works for you and your baby. Some foods that may be helpful are oats, barley, fenugreek, and bone broth. Talk to your healthcare provider to learn more about supplements and foods for lactation.

The above photo shows the small intestine one (Si 1) acupuncture point. This acupuncture point is lovely for breast/chest feeding mothers who are working on increasing their milk supply. Si 1 is usually combined with another acupuncture point called Ren 17 located in the center of the chest to promote lactation.

Lactation and breast/chest feeding challenges can be frustrating, but they don’t have to be! There are options for you that can be implemented yourself or provided to you by a healthcare practitioner to make this time in your life more comfortable. Be sure to reach out to professionals that can help you.

I would love the opportunity to help you with your lactation needs. Call the clinic at 587-879-7122 to book in.

How Acupuncture Can Help Sperm Fertility

How Acupuncture Can Help Sperm Fertility

Women are not the only ones who can seek solutions to fertility issues, or to seek treatment. Infertility can affect men as well. Acupuncture can support not only male fertility, but male health in general.

Did you know?

Male factor infertility makes up 40% of infertility diagnoses.

There are four important things to think about when talking about male fertility with your health care team.

  • Motility: How far are the sperm swimming in a straight line?
  • Morphology: How many of them have one head, one tail, and appear normal?
  • Count: The number of sperm in a sample. This number will vary (sometimes dramatically) from week to week.
  • Volume: The sample size, usually in millilitres (ml).

Many factors affect male fertility including stress, sleep, weight, previous surgeries, hormone levels, medications, diabetes, genetics, blood pressure, heart disease, age, drug use, and varicocele.

Just as many things affect male fertility, there are many things that can help to improve fertility and decrease the chances of infertility. Those include:

  • Eating a healthy balanced diet
  • Getting 7-9 hours of sleep
  • Managing any health conditions
  • And staying active is helpful.

Acupuncture can support your health and fertility. To improve your male fertility book an appointment online with us using the link below or call the clinic at 587-879-7122.

How Acupuncture Can Help You Conceive

How Acupuncture Can Help You Conceive

by Melanie Morrill | Feb 13, 2023

Trying to conceive is an incredibly exciting time in a person’s life! It’s a time of big changes, exciting possibilities, and anticipation. It can also be stressful, emotional, and frustrating. Luckily, there are people who can help you during this time, and an acupuncturist is one of them!

If you have been trying to conceive you have likely learned a great amount about your body and fertility. It’s fascinating that basal body temperature and cervical mucus change based on the menstrual cycle and that we can learn so much about our fertility with lab work like semen analysis and blood counts.

If basal body temperature and it’s relation to the menstrual cycle is something that interests you, we have another blog post about it here.

If you are looking for support in your TTC journey, acupuncture might be the boost you are looking for. Ideally, acupuncture treatments should start a few months before you start trying to conceive and continue until you are successful, but it can be used at any point for any length of time so don’t worry if you’ve already started trying.

Acupuncture can also be used at the same time as IVF, IUI, IVI, FET, and other reproductive technologies making it a great tool to add to your process.

To learn more about how acupuncture can support fertility take a look through our selection of blog posts or book an online meet and greet at Accessible Acupuncture.

There are many tools that you can use in your pregnancy journey, and acupuncture is an effective one. This help can start and last all throughout your pregnancy.

Prenatal acupuncture can help to reduce stress, support relaxation, and more during your pregnancy.

One of the biggest risks during your pregnancy is physical and mental stress. It’s important to address this stress and acupuncture is a great way to do that.

“A growing body of research shows that prenatal stress can have significant effects on pregnancy, maternal health and human development across the lifespan.”

— Dr. Mary Coussons-Read, Obstetric Medicine, June 2013

Acupuncture during your pregnancy can help alleviate your stress, resulting in a healthy pregnancy. Furthermore, in a recent study, when pregnant women received acupuncture as part of their prenatal care, they experienced:

  • 35% fewer medical inductions
  • 31% fewer epidurals
  • 32% less emergency C-section delivery
  • 9% less complicated vaginal births

Acupuncture is famous for reducing stress and supporting healthy mood balance. Enjoy the peace that acupuncture brings during your pregnancy by booking an appointment with Dr. Melanie Morrill Ac. today. Not only can she help by performing acupuncture, but she can also help by suggesting remedies that you can implement in your everyday routine.

We love helping patients like Emma during their pregnancy! Check out this amazing review we received from her:

“Melanie has been an incredible source of information, calm and support during the first trimester of my pregnancy. I struggled with severe nausea, gagging/ retching, strong food aversions and morning sickness since week 5 and I am now 11 weeks. The acupuncture helped to battle the symptoms when medication did not which was relief as it took a while to convince my doc that the meds were not working! Needless to say it’s been rough and during this time Melanie suggested at home remedies, simple food & drink swaps and routine changes. With Melanie’s help, I feel like I have slowly regained some normality in my life and would happily recommend her to anyone! Thank you so, so much!!”

Painful Periods Don’t Need to Ruin Your Life.

Painful Periods Don’t Need to Ruin Your Life

by Melanie Morrill | Dec 5, 2022

“My cramps are so bad, my five-year-old knows how to make a hot pack for me in the microwave”

“My cramps hurt to the point where I can not stand for 10 minutes”

“It feels like something is crushing my stomach”

So many people are suffering from painful periods. Scientist thinks that painful periods are caused by an inflammatory cascade including prostaglandins, causing extreme uterine cramping. Although uterine health is complicated, western medicine often struggles to treat it. Eastern medicine is no different and not every Acupuncturist is able to treat painful periods.

Not all acupuncturists are created equal. But, this is something I am extremely passionate about. Given my history, and how much I missed out on because of my period. I spent so much time researching painful periods, and I have made it my life’s work to be the go-to acupuncturist for fixing period pain. I have women who come in and say their cramps are so painful that they vomit from the pain, and some who even have to cancel work at least twice a month and worry about getting fired.

As an acupuncturist, I want to fix that problem, so that you are able to enjoy life on a daily basis. I have a 95% success rate in fixing painful periods, and you are more than welcome to come in for a consultation so that we can fix your painful periods as soon as possible. Or if you would like to learn more about inflammation and prostaglandins. As a healthcare provider and someone who suffered from painful periods for years, I understand.

Call the clinic at 587-879-7122 to book your consultation. I would love to stop your painful periods.
