Dysmenorrhea

Painful periods are one of the most common ailments that people with a uterus live with.

What causes the pain and what can we do about it?

Painful periods can be due to an underlying medical condition such as endometriosis, poly-cystic ovarian syndrome, or fibroids.

Pain can also be caused by prostaglandins which are chemicals that tell the uterus to contract.

The middle layer of the uterus is a muscle and if it contracts too hard it hurts.

What can you do for your cramping uterus?

You can apply heat, take over-the-counter medication, go for a walk, get a massage or self-massage, try acupuncture and moxa, enjoy some herbal remedies and supplements, or speak with your medical doctor.

If you want to work on your uterine health with acupuncture, book your appointment with me by using the link below, or by calling the clinic at 587-879-7122.
