Pain and Injury in Edmonton

Pain can be long term or short term. Acupuncture is helpful for both resolving the cause of the pain and for stopping the pain signal. Acupuncture encourages your body to release endorphins during your treatment, which is why people feel better right after their treatment. Then, as we work on the underlying causes of your pain, it goes away entirely.

If your pain is acute, it may disappear once you have treated the source of injury. If your pain is chronic, it can be managed with regular acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture has been found to be incredibly effective at alleviating pain and helping you recover from physical injuries.

How can Acupuncture support injury healing?

After any physical injury, you want to support your body’s own internal healing. Acupuncture reduces your time to heal and alleviates your pain while you’re healing.

Acupuncture works by:

  • improving circulation so your body has the energy it needs to heal
  • reducing inflammation and pain
  • reducing your time to heal
  • releasing tension around the injury, especially tense tight muscles and fascia
  • improving your range of motion in the injured joint

According to Harvard Medical School:

“[Acupuncture] may relieve pain by releasing endorphins, the body’s natural pain-killing chemicals, and by affecting the part of the brain that governs serotonin, a brain chemical involved with mood.”

These findings have been reported in several medical journals:

“Acupuncture has been demonstrated to enhance endogenous opiates, such as dynorphin, endorphin, encephalin, and release corticosteroids, relieving pain and enhancing the healing process.”
