Acupuncture for Labour and Birth

Acupuncture, acupressure, and doula support are amazing for labour and birthing. Acupuncture can be used during early labour and active labour to reduce pain, to promote relaxation, open the hips, promote cervical ripening, increase contractions, and to support transition.

To book acupuncture, acupressure, and AcuDoula support for your labour, please call the clinic for availability and pricing.

What an AcuDoula Does

An AcuDoula or Doula Acupuncturist supports the birthing person by providing pain relief, giving acupuncture and acupressure, providing information, offering birthing position suggestions, providing counterpressure, and guiding your partner on how to support your labour.

Good pain control and support reduce the need for cesarean delivery, decreases labour time, and supports labour.

What an AcuDoula is not

During your labour, your AcuDoula does not take the place of your partner, an obstetrician, or a midwife. AcuDoulas do not make medical decisions, catch babies, perform vaginal exams, write prescriptions, or assess newborns. You are required to have an obstetrician or midwife at your birth to book AcuDoula services.

We Will Come to You During Your Labour

The most important thing is that you are safe and comfortable during your labour so Melanie will come to your chosen birthing place in Edmonton whether that is the hospital (based on hospital and AHS guidelines), your home for a home birth, or at a birth center.
