Getting pregnant isn’t always easy, but acupuncture and modern medicine are here to help.
Every fertility journey is unique, but most start when a couple decides they are ready to welcome a baby into their hearts and home. You and your significant other start trying for a baby, you talk to your doctor and you do your prenatal bloodwork, you make sure you have all your immunizations, and that you and your partner are healthy and ready to start trying to conceive.
Now for 7 out of 8 couples, within the first 12 months of trying they will succeed and they will become pregnant. But for that 1 in 8 couple who lives with infertility, or subfertility it will take them more than a year to get pregnant and it may take them quite a bit longer. Once a couple has been trying for a year they may turn to medication and IUI or intrauterine insemination. Some people use medication, some people use IVF, and some people aren’t able to become pregnant after trying medication, IVF, or IUI.
Acupuncture can fit into any part of your fertility journey. My usual recommendation is for couples to start acupuncture three to six months before they start trying so that we can optimize egg quality, and sperm quality and we can make sure that the person who is becoming pregnant has a regulated menstrual cycle. After those 3 months of preparation, prenatal vitamins, herbs, and acupuncture, couples are more likely to get pregnant within 3 months.
For couples who are in their first 12 months of trying, we can add in acupuncture at any point to help you conceive faster. For couples who are working with a reproductive endocrinologist, gynecologist, or urologist, we can add acupuncture at any point to improve egg health and sperm health and uterine health.
For couples going through IVF we often do acupuncture to improve their outcomes, as well as we find that couples who do acupuncture while undergoing IVF have more successful positive pregnancy tests than those who do not.
